Math Week 5-16-16

7th: This week we continue working with angle relationships. Students are expected to know and identify complementary, supplementary, adjacent, and vertical angles. Students will also learn about triangles and special angle relationships involving triangles. Students should memorize that the sum of the interior angles of a triangle is 180 degrees.

Students will continue to learn about angle relationships that happen when two parallel lines are intersected by a transversal. Students will also learn about triangles and special angle relationships involving triangles. Students should memorize that the sum of the interior angles of a triangle is 180 degrees. At the end of the week, students will investigate linear relationships represented multiple ways (graph, equation, table).

Ray School Walk-a-Thon 2016: Movement Matters!
Friday May 20, 2016 
Please join us for our first ever Walk-a-Thon fundraiser, which will bring our entire school community together for a day of fun, fitness and fundraising.  

Fun and Fitness:  During the Walk-a-Thon, our students reach for their personal best distance during their walk-skip-run around our school playground, while family and volunteers cheer them on. 
Fundraising:  The Walk-a-Thon is also a fundraiser.  Whether it's $5, $25 or $100, we hope that each family will financially participate in the Walk-a-Thon to the best of their ability.
Our Fundraising Goal: Ray School is committed to keeping students moving!  Active bodies contribute to active minds.  Research shows that the more our students can move during the day, the more they can stay on task during class.  Funds from this Walk-a-Thon will create more opportunities for movement for our students: recess equipment, equipment for structured classroom activities, and more indoor/outdoor recess staff.  Let's help our children's bodies and brains stay fit and sharp!

Math Week 5-9-16

7th graders will finish learning about area and volume. Student will find the volume and surface area of cylinders and prisms (see video help links from last week). They will then begin to solve tasks about supplementary, complementary, vertical, and adjacent angles.

8th graders will learn about volume of Spheres and Cones this week. Student will be expected to use the formulas for finding the volume of cylinder, sphere, or cone.

Math Week 5-2-16

Both 7th and 8th grade will be learning about the math of measuring physical space. We will explore measuring area of circles and composite shapes to begin the week. This will be followed up by reminders about the formulas for finding volume of prisms and cylinders.
