WEEKLY MATH UPDATES

Our main focus is still connecting with students. We know there will still be challenges, glitches, and frustrations every week. That’s okay! We will be forgiving, patient, and flexible and hope you will do the same.

7th grade Students continue week 3 of a new model for math learning this week. I am still writing the lesson plan and grading student work for all students for math. Students can find access to assignments in the same Google Classroom they have been using all year. The person who will be directly helping students on M,TU,TH,F will be their new homeroom teacher (which is me for the 7th grade Hybrid Homeroom 304!). I will still see students remotely on Wednesdays.

We continue to study percentages and study in-depth what makes a percent a percent. Our focus this week is figuring tax and tip. Students will also complete a performance task modeling a dinner out with a friend or family member. It’s the student’s treat! We will end the week by beginning some coding learning with the CPS office of Computer Science and CSFirst.

  • 7.RP.A.3 Use proportional relationships to solve multistep ratio and percent problems. Examples: simple interest, tax, markups and markdowns, gratuities and commissions, fees, percent increase and decrease, percent error.

8th grade Students continue week 3 of a new model for math learning this week. I am still writing the lesson plan and grading student work for all students for math. Students can find access to assignments in the same Google Classroom they have been using all year. The person who will be directly helping students on M,TU,TH,F will be their new homeroom teacher. Furthermore, students will have an optional assignment with High School readiness in mind. Students can practice calculating slope. This will count toward extra credit points.

  • 8.EE.BUnderstand the connections between proportional relationships, lines, and linear equations.

  • Reviewing--7.RP.A.3 Use proportional relationships to solve multistep ratio and percent problems. Examples: simple interest, tax, markups and markdowns, gratuities and commissions, fees, percent increase and decrease, percent error.

Students will continue to use Khan Academy for individual/asynchronous learning.

ALGEBRA

We will finish with using function notation to describe relationships in equation, table, and graph form. I hope to start operations with polynomials before we go on Spring Break.

Reminder--with the return to in-person learning for some Ray students, the daily schedule for Ray middle school students is shifting. Due to in-person school going to 3:45 p.m., algebra class will be shifted to now be from 4:30 p.m. to 5:20 p.m., Monday through Thursday, starting on Monday, March 8, 2021. We will still meet remotely using the same Google Classroom and Google Meet. I will update you if there are any other changes. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.

WEEKLY MATH UPDATES

Our main focus is still connecting with students. We know there will still be challenges, glitches, and frustrations every week. That’s okay! We will be forgiving, patient, and flexible and hope you will do the same.

7th grade Students continue week 2 of a new model for math learning this week.

We continue to review percentages and study in-depth what makes a percent a percent. We will focus on benchmark percentages and finding “this percent of that”.

  • 7.NS.A.2.aUnderstand that multiplication is extended from fractions to rational numbers by requiring that operations continue to satisfy the properties of operations, particularly the distributive property, leading to products such as -1*-1=1and the rules for multiplying signed numbers.

  • Working Toward--7.RP.A.3 Use proportional relationships to solve multistep ratio and percent problems. Examples: simple interest, tax, markups and markdowns, gratuities and commissions, fees, percent increase and decrease, percent error.

8th grade Students continue week 2 of a new model for math learning this week. I am still writing the lesson plan and grading student work for all students for math. Students can find access to assignments in the same Google Classroom they have been using all year. The person who will be directly helping students on M,TU,TH,F will be their new homeroom teacher. Students will continue to learn about linear equations. This week we review what we already know about slope and extend our thinking to negative slope values.  We also continue to review percentages and study in-depth what makes a percent a percent. We will focus on benchmark percentages and finding “this percent of that”.

  • 8.EE.BUnderstand the connections between proportional relationships, lines, and linear equations.

ALGEBRA

Then we continue to look at function--f(x)-- notation for equations. We will then look at using function notation to describe relationships in equation, table, and graph form.

Schedule Change for WEEK 26 ONLY: Due to teacher professional development sessions for Mr. Albrecht algebra will meet from 3:30 to 4:20 on WEDNESDAY, 3-17-21 and then will not meet Thursday, 3-18-21. Please contact Mr. Albrecht if you have any questions.
