WEEKLY MATH UPDATES
Our main focus is still connecting with students. We know there will still be challenges, glitches, and frustrations every week. That’s okay! We will be forgiving, patient, and flexible and hope you will do the same.
7th grade Students continue week 4 of a new model for math learning this week. I am still writing the lesson plan and grading student work for all students for math. Students can find access to assignments in the same Google Classroom they have been using all year. The person who will be directly helping students on M,TU,TH,F will be their new homeroom teacher (which is me for the 7th grade Hybrid Homeroom 304!). I will still see students remotely on Wednesdays.
We finish our unit on percentages with a performance task assessment on Monday. Seventh grade will then start a unit on angles and angle measures. We will also celebrate National Poetry Month with “poem equations” on Thursday.
7.RP.A.3 Use proportional relationships to solve multistep ratio and percent problems. Examples: simple interest, tax, markups and markdowns, gratuities and commissions, fees, percent increase and decrease, percent error.
7.G.B.5 Use facts about supplementary, complementary, vertical, and adjacent angles in a multi-step problem to write and solve simple equations for an unknown angle in a figure.
8th grade Students continue week 4 of a new model for math learning this week. I am still writing the lesson plan and grading student work for all students for math. Students can find access to assignments in the same Google Classroom they have been using all year. The person who will be directly helping students on M,TU,TH,F will be their new homeroom teacher. I will still see students remotely on Wednesdays.
We finish our unit on percentages with a performance task assessment on Monday. Eighth grade will then start a unit on solving equations. We will also celebrate National Poetry Month with “poem equations” on Thursday.
8.EE.C Analyze and solve linear equations and pairs of simultaneous linear equations.
Furthermore, students will have an optional assignment with High School readiness in mind on graphing and equations of horizontal and vertical lines. I will hold a special office hours session to go over this material on Wednesday, 4-14-21 at 2:30 p.m. This will count toward extra credit points. meet.google.com/pzh-ykqx-koc
8.EE.BUnderstand the connections between proportional relationships, lines, and linear equations.
Students will continue to use Khan Academy for individual/asynchronous learning.
ALGEBRA
We spent time last week distinguishing between exponential and quadratic functions. We also started multiplying polynomials. This week we will look at how we can model real world scenarios using quadratic functions.
Reminder--with the return to in-person learning for some Ray students, the daily schedule for Ray middle school students is shifting. Due to in-person school going to 3:45 p.m., algebra class will be shifted to now be from 4:30 p.m. to 5:20 p.m., Monday through Thursday, starting on Monday, March 8, 2021. We will still meet remotely using the same Google Classroom and Google Meet. I will update you if there are any other changes. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
