WEEKLY MATH UPDATES

Our main focus is still connecting with students, getting to know each other, and learning how to use the technology that will facilitate our learning. We know there will still be challenges, glitches, and frustrations this week. That’s okay! We will be forgiving, patient, and flexible and hope you will do the same. For immediate tech help try the CPS Online Reopening Guide support page.

7th grade We will start the week with preparations to take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count! I am so excited to share this experience with the students!  We will continue to study integers (positive and negative numbers and zero!) We will look at how to “subtract” integers and how maybe subtraction is not even a real thing!

  • 7.NS.A.1 Apply and extend previous understandings of addition and subtraction to add and subtract rational numbers; represent addition and subtraction on a horizontal or vertical number line diagram.

8th grade We will start the week with preparations to take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count!  We ended last week with comparing proportional relationships, NOW we will see what happened with a relationship that is still linear, but not proportional! We will do some vocabulary work and really try to understand the ideas of: rate or change, slope, and linear relationship.

  • 8.EE.BUnderstand the connections between proportional relationships, lines, and linear equations.

Students will continue to use Khan Academy for individual/asynchronous learning.

ALGEBRA

Students continue to learn about how to solve a system of equations--this week using elimination. Also be on the lookout for emails updating what could be daily changes to the algebra schedule. I thank students and families for being patient and flexible with me as we all navigate the CPS reopening plan for Ray. We will keep our algebra time at 3:30 until hybrid learning begins.

Student Daily Remote Schedule by Homeroom: (this is the schedule we will use any day that all students are learning remotely)

All classes meet using Google Meet. Links to join class are in the top left hand corner of each class’ Google Classroom. Video Help for accessing Google Meet through Google Classroom (start at 2:44).To get access to Google Classroom and Google Meet use your CPS email. Go Here if you need help getting into your CPS email.

Homeroom teachers are listed by the homeroom numbers.
