Chicago: Young Scholars Program

We are pleased to announce that we were given permission to extend the deadline for Summer 2019 Young Scholars Program applications!
If you are still interested in joining us this July, you have until Sunday, April 7th to submit your material.

Young Scholars Program (YSP) at the University of Chicago offers enthusiastic and talented math students from seventh through twelfth grades an opportunity to strengthen their mathematical powers through a deep experience in mathematical thought and effort. Our intention is to broaden and enrich the students' understanding of mathematics rather than to accelerate them through the standard high school curriculum.

The mathematical content of the program for Summer 2019 will be topics in geometry.

All components use active learning techniques and ask students to work through challenging problems with the guidance of faculty, instructors, and undergraduate counselors.

For more details, and to download the application, please visit our website:

Summer YSP
The Young Scholars Program (YSP) at the University of Chicago offers enthusiastic and talented math students from seventh through twelfth grades an opportunity to strengthen their mathematical powers through a deep experience in mathematical thought and effort. • Open to rising 7th to 12th graders (so if you just finished 6th grade, you can come!)
  • The participation fee varies (there is a sliding scale), and there are “scholarships” for some students
  • The camp runs from Monday, July 1, to Friday, July 26, 9:30am-2:30pm on the UChicago campus (Fridays the day ends at noon)
  • We do NOT meet on Thursday, July 4, and Friday, July 5
  • The focus this summer is geometry

Math Week for 4-1-19

ALL: No School Friday, April 5. Teacher Institute Day. No School next week on Wednesday, April 10--Parent/Teacher Conferences.

7th UChicago: Probability! The way math lets us predict the future! We continue looking at compound events and then the differences between independent and dependent events.Plus: tree diagrams!

7th Loyola: We continue a unit on real world applications of area, surface, and volume of composite shapes made from circles, polygons, and their related 3D forms. We will start our unit final project. Also, circle area as part of composite area.

8th DePaul: We continue a geometry unit. This week we focus on the vocabulary of shapes and their parts, as well as, surface area and volume. Practice using the concept of volume to solve real-world tasks.

8th UIC: Linear systems. Elimination. Practice, practice, practice.
