Math Week 9-28-15

7th Grade: We will continue working with ratio and proportion. Specifically this week we will use unit rates to compare rates expressed in different units. For example, which is a better deal for milk if one costs $3 a gallon and another costs $2 of a pack of 3 quart boxes. We will then practice finding unit rates when one of the quantities is a fractional amount. Last we will start using unit rate to convert between measurement units (example: feet to yards, gallons to quarts, meters to centimeters, etc.).

7.RP.A.1 Compute unit rates associated with ratios of fractions, including ratios of lengths, areas and other quantities measured in like or different units.

8th Grade: Last week most students did very well learning about rational vs. irrational numbers! This week we will start a three-week unit on exponents and how exponents are used in solving tasks in algebra. 

8.EE.A.1 Know and apply the properties of integer exponents to generate equivalent numerical expressions.
