Remote Learning (Math) Week 3

Remote Learning--Ray 7th/8th Mathematics
Mr. Albrecht and Ms. Hedstrom

We began Remote Learning on Monday, April 13, 2020.This week starting on 4-27-20, we have our first full week of classes on Google Meet! No days off!  We are excited to continue mathematics learning with Ray’s amazing students.

  1. Online Meeting Schedule: listed below. We will meet Monday through Wednesday for short classes and then again on Friday for a Kahoot! about what we learned. Students will have Thursdays to work on weekly assignments and Khan Academy Homework. Mr. Albrecht or Ms. Hedstrom will share a Google Meet link in Google Classroom each day (it will show up in the header bar near the top left corner a few minutes before the start of class). This week we will be practicing more with angle relationships in 7th grade and using the Pythagorean Theorem in 8th grade. We will continue to review online meeting norms and what assigned work will look like.

  1. Daily Assignments: This will be checking in during the assigned time for class discussion (Math Talk, Mini Lessons, and Notice/Wonder). There may also be a follow up exit ticket question in Google Classroom to be done by the next class meeting. We will try to record and post the daily meetings.
  2. Weekly Assignments: Assigned in Google Classroom each Monday morning and may include 2-4 of the following
  1. Desmos activities
  2. Hands on projects
  3. Open-up curriculum applet tasks
  4. Study guides with attached practice quizlets
  1. Packets: Students and families may choose alternate packet work in place of the online teaching and learning. Please contact me at lalbrecht@cps.edu and I can put you in touch with a Ray administrator who will work with you on a packet pick-up and drop-off schedule.
  2. Grades: We will follow the CPS and ISBE grading guidelines once they are announced and confirmed. I will enter one grade in ASPEN each week for the following:
  • Khan homework
  • Assessment (usually Kahoot!)
  • Class work (assigned weekly in Google Classroom)
  • Participation (one exit ticket from the week’s meetings)
Furthermore, students will also receive a grade on any projects for the 4th quarter.
  1. Time expectations: CPS is recommending at least 180 total minutes a day for all student learning. Math is just a part of that (30 minutes to be exact). I am trying to plan with that in mind. We will check in on April 27, 2020 and see how the first two weeks went and what changes might be needed.
  2. Office Hours: 1:15 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily by appointment. Meetings via email, Google Classroom chat, or Google Hangouts chat, or JamBoard.
  3. Technology: link to letter from Ray: Tech Letter
  4. Communication with students: Google Classroom, CPS email, Google Meet (whole class), Google Hangout chat
  5. Communication with parents/families: email, Class Dojo, blog.
