School Forms Due By October 15. They can be turned in electronically to Ms. Vergara, svergara@cps.edu, and Ms. Anthony, slanthony1@cps.edu or to the school at the main entrance. Copies are available there.
PE for 7/8th will extend for 2 more weeks with Ms. Jerris. The next special 7/8th will rotate to also will last for 5 weeks. Ms. Jerris will post this in all PE Google Classrooms for the students. Students will continue with the same schedule they have (every homeroom coming a different day during the week).
Ray is a Grab and Go meal site during Remote Learning. Pick-ups are school days from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
From the PTO:
Hello Ray Parents and Guardians:
Ray PTO would like to help facilitate the set up of enrichment/support pods for families during this period of remote learning (and perhaps beyond!). Participation in the pod is completely voluntary.
In order to do this, it would be helpful to work with a room parent in each classroom. If you would be willing to serve as a room parent this year, please reach out to your classroom teacher. The commitment of serving as a room parent would involve helping to facilitate communication among families in your child's class to share ideas and support each other during remote learning and possibly beyond. We imagine that the support will look different depending on the ages and interests of the children in the participating families. Once we are back in school, room parents could also help with identifying chaperones for field trips, if any are needed.
Thank you!
Ray PTO
WEEKLY MATH UPDATES
Our main focus is still connecting with students, getting to know each other, and learning how to use the technology that will facilitate our learning. We know there will still be challenges, glitches, and frustrations this week. That’s okay! We will be forgiving, patient, and flexible and hope you will do the same. For immediate tech help try the CPS Online Reopening Guide support page.
EMAIL INBOX CLEANOUT PARTY!
Join Ms. Welber and Mr. Albrecht for a Google Meet party to clean out your CPS email inbox. Bring snacks, chat with us, and GET ORGANIZED! Tuesday, 9-29-20 from 2:15 to 2:45. meet.google.com/nww-idxr-tga
7th grade will continue exploring scale factor and scale drawings. We begin the week by drawing our own scale copies. Students will draw scale copies that are both larger and smaller than the original. Students then will be able to determine what scale factor was used by someone else in making a scale drawing. We end the week with an assessment performance task where students will be asked to choose a shape to create their own scale drawing of.
Solve problems involving scale drawings of geometric figures, including computing actual lengths and areas from a scale drawing and reproducing a scale drawing at a different scale.
8th grade continues a discussion of transformations (the math movement). We will begin the week reminding and expanding our definitions of translations, reflections, and rotations. We will then focus on translations and how to use a coordinate grid to model and communicate translations. Students will be assessed at the end of the week with a performance task where they will be given a shape and coordinate directions for how to model a translation of the shape.
Describe the effect of dilations, translations, rotations, and reflections on two-dimensional figures using coordinates.
During the fourth week of school students will continue to use Khan Academy for individual/asynchronous learning.
ALGEBRA
Invitations went out last weekend to families of students who qualify based on their passed grades, test scores, and work ethic. Mr. Albrecht will hold the class Monday-Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 4:20 p.m. started last Wednesday, 9-23-20. Please email Mr. Albrecht if you have questions.
Help Ms. Welber
As you know, Ms. Welber is co-teaching our class for the first half of this year. As part of Ms. Welber’s student teaching, she will need to record some lessons, either to share with her professors, or to submit to the state board for certification. In order to do that, we need permission from the parents/guardians of every student in the class. Please fill out this form: English Spanish to tell us if you give your permission or not. There is more information on the form as well about the recordings. This is the same form that Mrs. Johnson-Finner will send out for Mr. Watkins in her class, so you only need to fill it out once. If you already filled it out for Mrs. Johnson-Finner, you are all set!
Student Daily Schedule by Homeroom:
All classes meet using Google Meet. Links to join class are in the top left hand corner of each class’ Google Classroom. Video Help for accessing Google Meet through Google Classroom (start at 2:44).To get access to Google Classroom and Google Meet use your CPS email. Go Here if you need help getting into your CPS email.
Homeroom teachers are listed by the homeroom numbers.
