  1. 7/8th specials for the this week is with our Spanish teacher Senorita Dent. From Senorita Dent:

Buenos días familias,

Happy New Year, my name is Señorita Dent and I am the new Spanish teacher! I sent you an email before school started in August introducing myself and I am so excited to finally have the 7th and 8th grade students in class beginning today, Monday, January 4th, 2021. Below is information on when each homeroom has Spanish class as well as the GoogleMeet links and GoogleClassroom links for each class.

I will see each homeroom class live for 30 minutes each week and they will be assigned a mini project every Monday and are expected to complete it by the following Monday. I will post a video explaining the assignment along with written instructions on their Spanish GoogleClassroom each Monday morning. If the students have any questions or want to set up a time for virtual office hours then they may email me at vdent@cps.edu anytime.

Students are expected to attend Spanish class every day, and not doing so will result in a loss in participation points, which makes up the largest portion of their grade. If they will miss class or be late due to an excused absence then I expect an email from the student and/or guardian before class.

Homeroom 302 will have Spanish class from 1:10 PM - 1:40 PM every Monday.

Homeroom 304 will have Spanish class from 1:10 PM - 1:40 PM every Tuesday.

Homeroom 306 will have Spanish class from 1:10 PM - 1:40 PM every Wednesday

Homeroom 307 will have Spanish class from 1:10 PM - 1:40 PM every Thursday.

Homeroom 309 will have Spanish class from 1:10 PM - 1:40 PM every Friday.

WEEKLY MATH UPDATES

Our main focus is still connecting with students, getting to know each other, and learning how to use the technology that will facilitate our learning. We know there will still be challenges, glitches, and frustrations this week. That’s okay! We will be forgiving, patient, and flexible and hope you will do the same. For immediate tech help try the CPS Online Reopening Guide support page.

7th grade We will start the week with SEL check-ins. Then we will continue a unit on circles. Our continued focus will be on discovering, knowing, and applying the area formula for circles. We will review and practice with Kahoot! on Friday and then students will do a performance task assessment next Tuesday, 1-19-21.

  • 7.G.B.4Know the formulas for the area and circumference of a circle and use them to solve problems; give an informal derivation of the relationship between the circumference and area of a circle.

8th grade We will start the week with SEL check-ins. We then will look at proportional relationship graphs and connect the idea of slope to the constant of proportionality. Students will be able to write the equation of a line from a proportional graph. Performance task on Friday, 1-15-21.

  • 8.EE.BUnderstand the connections between proportional relationships, lines, and linear equations.

Students will continue to use Khan Academy for individual/asynchronous learning.

ALGEBRA

Students will be using the y=mx+b form and standard form of linear equations to model real-world situations (story problems). We will also continue to practice at how we can also write linear equations in standard form and how to go between the two forms.
