WEEKLY MATH UPDATES

Our main focus is still connecting with students, getting to know each other, and learning how to use the technology that will facilitate our learning. We know there will still be challenges, glitches, and frustrations this week. That’s okay! We will be forgiving, patient, and flexible and hope you will do the same. For immediate tech help try the CPS Online Reopening Guide support page.

7th grade We will start the week with SEL check-ins. We will continue to study integers (positive and negative numbers and zero!) We look at how integers help us model things like temperature and elevation and begin to add and subtract them!

  • 7.NS.A.1 Apply and extend previous understandings of addition and subtraction to add and subtract rational numbers; represent addition and subtraction on a horizontal or vertical number line diagram.

8th grade We will start the week with SEL check-ins. We continue to look at proportional relationships as we prepare to study linear relationships. We will compare multiple proportional relationships in three different ways--graphs, tables, and equations.

  • 8.EE.BUnderstand the connections between proportional relationships, lines, and linear equations.

Students will continue to use Khan Academy for individual/asynchronous learning.

ALGEBRA

Students continue to learn about how to solve a system of equations--this week using substitution. Also be on the lookout for a emails updating what could be daily changes to the algebra schedule. I thank students and families for being patient and flexible with me as we all navigate the CPS reopening plan for Ray.
