Math Week 5-23-16

7th-- Students will study scale factor through scale models and maps. It is important for students to understand the words proportional and similar as they pertain to mathematics thinking.

Video about scale factor:

CCSS: 7.G.A.1.Solve problems involving scale drawings of geometric figures, including computing actual lengths and areas from a scale drawing and reproducing a scale drawing at a different scale.

8th-- Students continue to investigate linear relationships through filling water balloons and comparing deals and rates for Wifi service and Uber rides. Starting Wednesday 8th graders will be taking the end-of-year NWEA MAP mathematics tests. Students have copies of their previous scores and their goals for this round of testing.

CCSS: 8.F.2. Compare properties of two functions each represented in a different way (algebraically, graphically, numerically in tables, or by verbal descriptions). For example, given a linear function represented by a table of values and a linear function represented by an algebraic expression, determine which function has the greater rate of change.
